A new beach walk…
We spied Sandhead from the road to Ardwell Bay, the tide was out and the beach was glistening in the sun, so we decided to head down and check it out, we are so glad we did! What a spectacular beach, as we stood on the grassy bank, words like endless, expansive and empty came to mind.
Sandhead sits on the shore of Luce Bay, and gives you seven miles of firm, sandy beach to walk on, with so much space for the dogs to enjoy, however, like many of the beaches in Scotland, you hardly meet anyone else, just a few dog walkers and if you are lucky you might see some horses stretching their legs.
Sandhead itself, is a small village, with a hotel and cafe, which was closed when we were there, Monday & Tuesday but, we are reliably informed that the cakes are delicious. There is plenty of parking just off the beach and tables if you fancy a picnic before heading off for the long walk across the bay. As you head down the beach you’ll pass Sands of Luce Holiday Park, with holiday homes that have an amazing view! A bit further on, if you notice a red flag, it means you can’t go any further down the beach, due to the MOD area, however if you are lucky, as we were, with the sun shining and a bit of a breeze, you will enjoy glorious walk.
Our dogs absolutely loved it, so much space to run around, chase each other and play, take a ball or frisbee, you’ll have hours of fun and all leave exhausted!
